Rapper Tory Lanez was convicted of three charges in the 2020 shooting of hip-hop icon Megan Thee Stallion, which left her with gunshot wounds and bullet fragments .

The rapper from Houston, real name, Megan Pete, was shot multiple times in both feet in 2020 after leaving a party in the Hollywood Hills with Tory Lanez, another rapper, and Kelsey Harris, a former assistant.
The shooting happened on July 12, 2020, less than two months after George Floyd died at the hands of Minneapolis police.

Supporters of Megan and Lanez gathered outside the courthouse for most of the eight-day trial and crowded the courtroom and the hallway.
After the jury left the courtroom, Lanez’s father, Sonstar Peterson, leapt up and began shouting: “This wicked system stands judged before God almighty!” He then pointed to the two prosecutors in the case and yelled “You two are evil, wicked people. You know exactly what you did.”

Lanez' legal counsellor George Mgdesyan said they were "stunned by the decision.", "There was not adequate proof to convict Mr. Peterson," Mgdesyan said in an explanation. "We accept this case was not demonstrated for certain. We will investigate all choices including an allure.

The Jury was made up of seven women and five men and the trial lasted for 8 days. The Jury deliberated before convicting the 30-year-old Canadian rapper, of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Megan Thee Stallion was already a major rising star at the time of the shooting, and her prominence has surged since. She has also won a Grammy for best new artist in 2021, and had No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with her own song “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, and as a guest on Cardi B’s “WAP.”
