Nitro Math – A Fun Way to Learn Math

The online multiplayer game Nitro Math was developed by Teaching.com team. Players in Nitro Math fight against up to fifteen other players to solve mathematical equations as soon as they can. On June 3, 2022, it debuted.

Nitro Math made its initial development announcement on 31st October 2019. Travis, however, said in a news post in February 2020 that the administrators had spent a lot of time working on the game and had initially planned it a few years prior. After then, the administrators changed the gaming system, which they disclosed in a news article in January 2021. On June 3, 2022, the game entered beta and was made playable at the test site for all gold members. Testing is now restricted to gold members only. Later this year, all gamers should be able to access the game.

Starting on October 4, 2022, gold members who have signed into Nitro Type will see an advertisement inviting them to play the beta version of Nitro Math.

Players compete by controlling moving automobiles around a playing area in an effort to acquire the right responses. Nitro Arithmetic is designed to improve speed (number of points per game) and accuracy via constant practice in a pleasant and competitive atmosphere rather than to teach actual math subjects. An answer to the question that appears at the bottom of the screen must be found in a game. Each game will provide players one nitro, which they may spend to fix all of the incorrect answers on the screen. Additionally, they may speed up their vehicle by employing boost, which is accomplished by filling the boost meter with fuel nodes and accurate responses.

Nitro Math offers cash and experience points as an incentive to practice. Cash may be spent in the game’s shop to buy automobiles and treasure, while experience points are utilized to advance in the season. Nitro Math also runs seasons that provide unique, one-time cars and rewards to keep the content fresh. Nitro Type and Nitro Math both share a number of features. These contain the same gold membership system, cash, mystery box system, season schedule (which includes XP and prizes), vehicles, garage, loot, friends list, store, and news page.

Nitro Math’s primary and most significant feature is its games. Players in a game compete against one another by completing arithmetic questions as soon as they can while driving their automobile at will through an open field, hitting matching answers as they go. Players can select whatever practice mode they’d want to use before beginning a game.

Game

There are two types of games: regular games and friend games.

Regular Games

Regular games are played in public. While waiting for other players to enter the lobby, those who join a game can drive around a smaller, more confined version of the playing area. In the pre-game lobby, they can gather fuel nodes and utilize boost, albeit their boost meter resets once the game starts. Using the keyboard’s number keys (1–8), players may flash their stickers at neighbouring players. No of how many participants there are, the game will begin after a set period of time. Each game lobby may hold up to 16 participants.

All participants will be gathered in the centre of the playing field after the pre-lobby waiting period is up, at which point the start countdown will begin to play. The game will begin after a brief delay. Players may use their mouse to control their automobiles after the game has begun. The object of the game is to identify and drive into a matching solution on the playing field in order to solve the math problem at the bottom of the screen. At the conclusion of the 60-second time restriction, the player with the most points wins.

Players may utilize the boost meter to increase their car’s speed by collecting fuel nodes over the course of the game. Additionally, each player has access to one nitro at any time during the game. If a player selects the incorrect option for a question, their car will briefly slow down and the boost’s effectiveness will be significantly reduced. The player will lose if more than 10 seconds pass without moving the cursor.

If two players tie for the most points at the end of the game, the person with the greater accuracy will be ranked higher. The game will go into overtime if two or more players totally tie for first place. The first two tiebreakers will face off in an animation that will flash on the screen, however Overtime can include more than two players if they all tie for first. The winner in overtime is determined by who scores another point first. Notably, there won’t be any overtime if players tie for any other position. Instead, in the final standings, those players will be tied for the same position.

A brief animation of the top three players in the round will play after each game. After that, the game’s results, which include each player’s rating for the round, are displayed, and the player is given prizes. The player now has the option of playing the same arithmetic type again or choose a different math kind to practice.

Friend games
Friend games are exactly like regular games, with the exception that there is only room for one player and any invited friends who join via the player’s join link. Players that participate in buddy games get access to an additional 8 stickers. Like in ordinary games, a buddy game can include up to 16 players.

Reception

Due to the randomly grouped nature of the answer spawning, several players have remarked that the gameplay is more dependent on luck than on accurate mathematical abilities. This implies that occasionally a section won’t have the proper response accessible, forcing players to spend additional time obtaining the perfect response. There are three responses available in the game’s current iteration (blue, green, and yellow), and all pieces of the same colour are assigned the same number.

Interesting Facts

• Games used to last 120 seconds rather than 60. Prior to the beta testing being made available to gold members, this was altered.
• Prior to using percentages, accuracy was determined by letter grades. A modification was made on June 8, 2022.
• When both Nitro Math and Nitro Type could be played simultaneously, cash and XP could be gained at a significantly faster pace than usual. It has subsequently been altered, though. The player will be ejected out of the Nitro Math game and receive a notification stating that they are unable to play both Nitro Type races and Nitro Math games at the same time. The same rule applies the other way around.

Points

Every time a player provides a proper response to a question, they gain points.

Fuel nodes 

Fuel nodes are colourful pellets with lightning bolts on them that appear on the playing field. They are used to fill up the boost meter.

Boost Meter

Filling up the boost meter entails gathering fuel nodes and providing accurate answers to questions. It serves as a booster.

Boost

The player’s automobile travels more quickly when using Boost Boost. The boost meter determines how much boost is available. Pressing CTRL or holding down the left click while the boost meter is full will increase the car’s speed for the duration of the boost or until the button is released.

Scoreboard

Real-time tracking of each player’s positions and points is done on the scoreboard. During a game, this may be seen in the left-top corner.

Nitro’s

Every answer on the playing field becomes right when one Nitro is used in a game.

Badge

A label or tag that indicates a player’s present position—first, second, or third—will be following behind their automobile. A badge won’t be behind the car of any competitors who finish lower than third.

Incorrect Response

When a player responds wrong to a question, their automobile slows down for a while; incorrect responses to questions made during this interval do not prolong the delay.
